Danis-Pepin To Join Rockford, Gilbert Released

The Rockford IceHogs made a few minor moves yesterday. Defenseman Simon Danis-Pepin was recalled from the Toledo Walleye whose playoff run ended last weekend to the Charlotte Checkers in four games. Danis-Pepin scored one goal and had three assists in the Walleye post-season. He split time between Toledo and Rockford in the regular season, and could make an appearance in an IceHogs sweater when their post-season begins this Friday, the sixteenth. Non-roster forward Derek Nesbitt will join him on the Mega Bus ride to beautiful city of Rockford.

In related news – I can only assume – the IceHogs released center David Gilbert from his amateur try-out agreement. Since joining the Rockford on April 1st, Gilbert on laced up the skates for one game – he recorded an assist and a plus/minus of +2. Gilbert should return to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan for his final year of eligibility in the QMJHL this fall. In case you were wondering, his rights are still owned by the Blackhawks.

Blackhawks Extend Affiliation With Rockford And Toledo

Rockford IceHogs

Toledo Walleye

The Blackhawks announced the other day that the Toledo Walleye would remain the organization’s ECHL (East Coast Hockey League) affiliate for the 2010-11 season. They also extended their contract with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL (American Hockey League) for another season as well. Rockford has served as the Blackhawks AHL affiliate for three seasons, and next season will obviously be the fourth.

It was the inaugural season for the Walleye in the league. The Blackhawks actually share affiliation of the team with the Detroit Red Wings. The organization owns the rights to seven players currently on the Walleye roster – most notably being forward prospect Akim Aliu (Red Rising’s #5).

Akim Aliu Reassigned To The Walleye

Prospect Akim Aliu was reassigned to the Toledo Walleye (ECHL) from the Rockford IceHogs (AHL) where he played forty-eight games. With the IceHogs he scored eleven goals and six assists for a total of seventeen points – Aliu also accumulated sixty-nine penalty minutes. No matter how you look at it, this is not the direction any organization wants a top prospect to go. The Blackhawks had (and still have) high hopes for Aliu since his selection in the second round (56th overall) of the 2007 draft.

Aliu didn’t start the season off well, but from what I’ve read his level of play has improved and has become more confident on the ice. The demotion to the ECHL won’t be the kiss of death for Aliu’s career. He will see more ice-time with the Walleye. With the frequency that Mark Bernard (the General Manager of Minor League Affiliations) moves players between Rockford and Toledo, Aliu’s stay could be short.

Live Rust – Blackhawks 3, Islanders 5

Out of the Blue, and Into the Black

Hey Hey, My My (Out of the Blue) – The Blackhawks went into the Nassau Coliseum expecting a victory over a weaker foe, but left with a rather embarrassing loss to the Islanders. Entrenched on home ice, the Islanders won the game 5-3 due to the goaltending performance of Dwayne Roloson. It looked as though the Blackhawks were ill prepared and were trying to shake off the rust that accumulated over the two-week Olympic break. The goaltending effort from both goalies was poor, and the defense in front of them wasn’t any better.

A couple Olympians came out strong in this one, however. Jonathan Toews had two assists on the night, and Patrick Kane had a goal and two assists. It appeared as though Coach Quenneville was trying to give the non-Olympians more ice-time. No player saw less then ten minutes of ice-time against the Islanders.

Next up, the Blackhawks host the Oilers tonight at the United Center. With the trade deadline about an hour away, an anonymous source said that Bowman is trading Tomas Kopecky to the Maple Leafs for a case of WD40. Now, that is the type of ‘joke’ that would cause my girlfriend to pretend she doesn’t know me.

Minor Moves –

Defenseman Simon Danis-Pepin was reassigned to the Toledo Walleye by way of Rockford. In thirty-eight games with the IceHogs he had one goal and seven assists – eight points. This will be his first time in Toledo and the ECHL. The move is due to the number of newly acquired defensemen in Rockford.

Hobson And Charlebois Reassigned To Toledo

Yesterday, I was out at some dive bar that had a fifteen-dollar all you could drink beer special for the duration of the Super Bowl. I had every intention to come back to my computer and write a quick post about the IceHogs reassigning forward Adam Hobson and defenseman Joe Charlebois to Toledo, but as you can tell by the date above that didn’t happen.

In his latest sting with Rockford, Hobson played two games scoring one goal and a plus/minus of -1. In eight games he has two goals and one assist this year with the IceHogs. Charlebois played two games while recalled to Rockford, and was scratched from Saturday’s game vs. Lake Erie. He didn’t tally any points before being reassigned to Toledo.

Update: Hobson was recalled by Rockford, again.

Movement In The ‘Hawks System

Joe Fallon who was called up to backup Huet last night was promptly reassigned to Rockford following last night’s loss to the Blues. There was no realistic chance Fallon would see any ice-time yesterday. He did an exceptional job warming the bench. Kudos to you, Mr. Fallon. Alec Richards who was recalled from Toledo to backup Corey Crawford last night was reassigned today as well.

Amid the shuffle of goaltenders to and from Rockford, the IceHogs recalled forward Adam Hobson from Toledo. Hobson was reassigned to the great state of Ohio in January. In six previous games with Rockford he has one goal and one assist. With Toledo (as an Alternate Captain), Hobson leads the team with forty-four points – eighteen goals and twenty-six assists – in thirty-seven games played.

Two Sent To Toledo, And Corey Crawford News

Adam Hobson and Alec Richards were sent to Toledo by way of Rockford this morning. Both have been recalled and reassigned between the Blackhawks AHL and ECHL a few times this season. Most recently they joined the IceHogs on December 26th. In six games with Rockford, forward Hobson had one goal and one assist. Goaltender Richards started six games in net for the IceHogs and compiled a record of 3-2, a goals-against average of 3.12, and a save percentage of 0.895.

With Richards going to Toledo the IceHogs are left with one active goalie in Joe Fallon unless Corey Crawford is finally healthy after being shutdown November 13th. According to Kris Gray of Chicago Now’s Call of the Wild, Crawford will be ready to go as soon as Friday.
